🐝 What Is Drone Brood in a Beehive? 🐝
If you’ve ever peeked inside a beehive, you might have noticed larger, bumpy, dome-shaped cells among the worker brood. These special cells are home to drone brood—the male bees of the colony!
Unlike worker bees, drones don’t gather nectar or pollen. Their main role is to mate with a queen from another hive to help spread strong genetics. You’ll usually find drone brood in late spring and summer when colonies are preparing for reproduction.
🐝 Fun Fact: Drone bees don’t have stingers! So while they might look big and intimidating, they’re completely harmless.
