❓❓ Ever heard of winter bees? Unlike their sisters who are born in the spring-summer, they are born late August. They age very slowly and, therefore, they can live up to six months, instead of 4-6 weeks. Perhaps it is because they cease raising brood for a spell which keeps them young. Their job, other than insulating the hive and rotating to keep the hive warm, is to protect the queen and begin rearing brood after winter solstice, depending on food stores and temperature. Winter bees are what ensure survival of the hive for the next season.
