Ingredients:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground cloves
- 1/8 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tbsp Honey in the Hollow Bee Farm honey
- 1 small egg
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- royal icing for decorating (optional)
- ribbon or twine for hanging
Cooking Instructions:
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, beat the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the honey, egg, and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and mix well.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and stir until combined.
- Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness.
- Cut into desired shapes using cookie cutters, making sure they are thick enough to be sturdy.
- Use a straw to make a small hole near the top of each cookie for hanging.
- Place cookies on a lined baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes, until the edges are lightly browned.
- Let the cookies cool completely on a wire rack.
- Decorate with royal icing if desired, making sure not to cover the hanging hole.
- Once the icing is set, thread a ribbon or twine through the hole to hang the cookies on the tree.
