Did you know honey bees don’t hibernate like most insects? ???? Instead, they stay busy all winter, keeping their hive warm and cozy! According to Chuck Gill from Penn State University, the bees form a tight, thermoregulating cluster, kind of like a big bee hug. ???? They vibrate their flight muscles to generate heat, keeping the hive temperature between 75 and 93°F—even when it’s freezing outside. ❄️
To make sure everyone survives, they take turns rotating through the warmer and cooler spots in the cluster. Teamwork at its finest! ????✨
You can see in the photo where the heat from the bees has melted the snow above them.
