Unlike their spring and summer sisters, winter bees are special! ???? Born in late August, they age super slowly and can live up to six months—much longer than the usual 4-6 weeks. Why? Maybe it’s because they take a break from raising brood, which seems to keep them young. ✨
Their main jobs are to insulate the hive, rotate to keep it warm, and protect the queen. After the winter solstice, depending on food and temperature, they’ll start rearing new brood to prepare for the next season. Winter bees are the hive’s secret to survival—and the reason the colony thrives come spring! ????????
