Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Cooking Time: 25 minutes
Servings: 6 (approximately 24 meatballs)
Ingredients
For the Meatballs:
1 lb (450 g) ground beef (or ground turkey)
1/2 cup breadcrumbs (whole wheat or regular)
1 egg, lightly beaten
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 cup grated onion
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp smoked paprika (optional)
For the Honey BBQ Sauce:
1/2 cup barbecue sauce (your favorite variety)
1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or grease it lightly.
In a large bowl, combine ground meat, breadcrumbs, egg, honey, minced garlic, grated onion, salt, pepper, and smoked paprika. Mix gently until well combined.
Use a tablespoon or small scoop to portion out the mixture, rolling it into evenly sized meatballs (about 1 inch in diameter). Place the meatballs on the prepared baking sheet.
Bake for 18–20 minutes, or until the meatballs are browned and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 160°F/71°C for beef or 165°F/74°C for turkey).
While the meatballs are baking, combine barbecue sauce, honey, apple cider vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce in a small saucepan. Heat over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until warmed through.
Remove the baked meatballs from the oven and transfer them to a large bowl. Pour the honey BBQ sauce over the meatballs and toss to coat them evenly.
Serve the meatballs hot as an appetizer, or pair them with mashed potatoes, rice, or a side salad for a complete meal.
